Felt poms poms were big on the catwalk this year and these vibrant beaded examples provide a gentle touch to this stunning statement necklace with its turquoise needles and abalone shell daggers! An agate slice and cubes, plus pearls provide an extra splash of popping colour for a look that's fashion fierce!

INGREDIENTS

  • Turquoise needles (sizes are approximate), 12mm x 6, 20mm x 2, 25mm x 16, 30mm x 4, 40mm x 4, 50mm x 10
  • Turquoise rounds, 6mm, x 8, 8mm x 12
  • Agate slice, 8cm, purple x 1
  • Daggers, abalone shell, 30mm x 10
  • Oval, abalone shell, 1.5cm x 0.7mm x 1
  • Pom poms, 20mm, felt, beaded: purple/lilac x 2; green x 2; turquoise x 4
  • Cubes, agate, 10mm: blue x 4; pink x 4; purple x 4; green x 5
  • Pearls, 6mm: turquoise x 12; purple x 12

HOW TO MAKE
Necklace
  1. Cut a 49cm length of 19 strand, silver bead stringing wire and another of heavy duty 49 strand bead stringing wire. Take an 8cm long purple agate slice with a top drilled hole and attach a silver bail, securing with pliers and attaching an 8mm silver jump ring. Thread the pendant onto the heavy duty wire to form the central focal point of the necklace. Finally attach a 10mm pink agate cube to the jump ring with a wrapped loop.
  2. Thread an abalone shell dagger, 25mm turquoise needle and 50mm turquoise needle onto the heavy duty wire, to one side of the pendant. Slip a purple beaded felt pom pom onto a 30mm silver head pin, close with a wrapped loop and string onto the wire. Continue, adding a turquoise 6mm pearl, green agate cube, 25mm turquoise needle, blue agate cube, green felt pom pom, purple 6mm pearl, abalone dagger, green agate cube, turquoise 6mm pearl, 25mm turquoise needle, pink agate cube, abalone dagger, purple 6mm pearl, green agate cube and finally another turquoise and purple 6mm pearl.
  3. For the other side of the strand, string the following sequence: an abalone dagger, 25mm turquoise needle, 50mm turquoise needle, green felt pom pom, purple 6mm pearl, purple agate cube, 25mm turquoise needle, green agate cube, turquoise felt pom pom, turquoise 6mm pearl, abalone dagger, blue agate cube, purple 6mm pearl, 25mm turquoise needle, green agate cube, abalone dagger, turquoise 6mm pearl, purple agate cube and finally another 6mm turquoise and purple pearl.
  4. Take the 19 strand length of wire and thread on eight 50mm turquoise needles, with two 40mm turquoise needles each side of this group. Slip two turquoise felt pom poms onto individual head pins, fastening with wrapped loops and thread one either side, followed by two 30mm and one 20mm turquoise needles either side of these.
  5. On one side of the strand, continue to string a purple agate cube, turquoise felt pom pom, abalone dagger, purple pearl, three 25mm turquoise needles, abalone dagger, pink agate cube, turquoise pearl, 25mm turquoise needle, blue agate cube, purple pearl, 25mm turquoise needle, turquoise pearl, three 12mm turquoise needles, and finally a purple and turquoise pearl.
  6. To the other side of the strand, continue beading with a pink agate cube, purple felt pom pom, abalone dagger, purple pearl, three 25mm turquoise needles, abalone dagger, purple agate cube, turquoise pearl, 25mm turquoise needle, blue agate cube, purple pearl, 25mm turquoise needle, turquoise pearl, three 12mm turquoise needles, and finally a purple and turquoise pearl.
  7. On all four ends of the two wire strands, thread on three 8mm round turquoise beads and two 6mm round turquoise beads. Attach the four ends to a silver and turquoise adjustable hook clasp using wire protectors and crimps, finishing off with crimp covers. Finally, thread an abalone oval bead onto a purple crystal head pin and attach to the extender chain on the clasp with a wrapped loop.
